On the weekend of April 30 to May 2 of 2022 we had the pleasure of participating in the first Environmental Fair organized in the city of Cheste by the Department of the Environment of the local government.
The place chosen for the event was Parque de la Lomiquia, an old dump on the outskirts of the city, on which a beautiful green space has been generated, recovering a totally degraded habitat. The reason for holding the fair was the demand for greater knowledge and respect for the natural environment.
The fair, carried out following the sanitary and capacity measures for the protection and prevention of contagion of the Covid-19 virus, had a total of 16 stalls, located throughout the park, forming a one-way route, in which you could buy plants, organic food, soaps and artisan personal hygiene products; participate in plant workshops and children's activities, and learn about native flora and fauna or how to reduce our impact on the environment. The fair also hosted the cactus and succulent congress organized by ACYS, a traditional event in the municipality.
Although it was not a commercial fair but for family enjoyment, we had the opportunity to explain to the people who came to our stand what the Carbon Footprint consists of, the most frequent environmental impacts caused by our way of life as a society and how we can begin to take responsibility for them. We were also able to explain what the forestry and environmental work carried out by the organization consists of, as well as the use of drone technology in them.
Prior to the start of the fair, we placed a series of identification sheets on different trees in the park along the fair's route, in which the species in question, physical characteristics and distribution were explained, and a quantification of the CO2 absorbed by a individual of the species at 20 years of age.
On the other hand, we had the opportunity to meet colleagues from other positions, who contributed with their assistance great initiatives, of an innovative nature and local products, organic and artisanal production that caught the attention of a large number of people.
The result was a pleasant event, with a great organization by the Department of the Environment of the Cheste City Council, to which we are grateful for the invitation.
